Cute story for new kindergarteners.
I bought this sight-unseen as a book to read to my son before kindergarten. It sounded like it would get him excited for the big day. Unfortunately, this book focuses on the sad parents peering in on the kids and crying. It also sets the precedent that parents will stay during their first day and watch them, which is not allowed. If anything, this book makes kids concerned that their parents are crying without them... I'd skip this and look for an uplifting book about kindergarten.
Terrible story! It starts with a child being scared and then goes onto a group of parents standing by the classroom door and all crying and having a hard time saying goodby to their kids. Why would anyone want to share this type of a story with a child? Why is it so difficult to find a book that has a positive story, that kindergarten is fun, showing how the day at school looks like, what to expect in classrom and most imoprtanty no drama.
Such a great book. It relieved a lot of anxiety that my daughter had about kindergarten and she didn't feel so alone in being nervous. I purchased the book about preschool last year and that helped as well. I'll write a little message to her in the book and put it in her hope chest for when she's older, after she starts school.
My granddaughter, who is starting Kindergarten in the fall, loves this book. The illustrations and rhymes are simple and very cute. She wants to read it every night and I'm sure it's preparing her for the big day.
This has to be one of my favorite children's author. I bought these for my niece and nephew and soon will start the collection for my granddaughter .
Had I known this was a series with "The Night Before First Grade" I would have purchased that one instead. My son is being homeschooled for Kindergarten this year but I figured this was a cute enough sounding book to get it. Then on the back of the book I read the other titles in this series and now plan to buy the one for First Grade. That being said: this particular book is very well written and illustrated. The cute twist to the "T'was the Night Before Christmas" is both familiar and fun!My son enjoyed it so much that he had me read it three times in a row.
My granddaughter was apprehensive about starting kindergarten, but this book seemed to alleviate some of her anxiety. My daughter reports that she has adapted very well, although I can’t give this book all the credit.
This book was absolutely perfect to read to my son the night before Kindergarten... every detail from packing his bookbag to unboxing shoes in the AM was discussed. It was easy to read & the pictures kept him entertained while I was reading. Definitely recommend!
