About the Author

Lenny Hort is the author of many books for children, including George Washington (DK Biography), The Seals on the Bus, and Tie Your Socks and Clap Your Feet: Mixed Up Poems. These books are great for my third graders! They use these for their big biography projects and they offer tons of great info!

Great book. Highly recommend

I read this aloud with my two sons ages 8 and 9 over the course of two weeks. We thought it would be a nice addition to our homeschool in learning about South Africa. The material was a little inaccessible. I think one would need to know more about many of the players in South African political history to find this book engaging; however, I think if you had that background this book might be too simple. I'm not sure who would be the best audience for this book, but it did provide us with useful information. I wouldn't picture using this book again or recommending it to others as a "must read" - maybe just a lukewarm "it's okay" - but who wants that as a recommendation?

Very informative book. Such a complex man. Good to see his story told for this younger generation. We must never forget his fight for freedom.

Since his passing I wanted to have as much as I could to pass on to my "grandchildren" even though I don't have any yet!!!

A good read of the journey of this great leader. Many life lessons displaced by his behavior in his situations.

Great book for a child who wants to learn more about this extraordinary man and all that he has done and very useful for school projects as well.
