In book three the reader sees Clara maturing as her magic develops - becoming a powerful witch, Those around her have no real understanding of her powers and how strong they are. Included in the storyline are magicians, mages, wizards, suspense and a magical mystery to be solved. - A mention also for all the mythical creatures. In the meantime Clara and Marcello continue with their adventures and the development of more magic. Detailed descriptions and scenes continue and unexpected is the return of the Merqueen. The reader never knows what to expect in Lucia Ashta's tales. Clearly another winner!
The narrative in the first two books in the series were interesting even with all the self doubt and reflection of the main character that took up much of the story. Unfortunately the third book in this series is a rehash of the first two books’ plot lines. I found myself skimming large sections as the predictable plot lines evolved. The last confrontation with the main antagonist was absolutely ludicrous. I have no further interest in continuing such a trite and predictable story line.
I love that Clara has to listen to her inner guidance to teach her about her powers because even the knowledgeable people around her don't understand her powers. I love the development of the story and can't wait til the next book.
with no one really knowing about Clara's powers nor how powerful she really is she has to learn for herself how to control them. I love the personal and magic growth that Lucia has written for Clara. This book is just a roller coaster ride of adventure and excitement.
On her own she learns how to fly. I hope they finally give her the training she deserves.
I feel a little bad about giving this 3 stars when others gave it 5 but I just can't do it. When I first started this series I was looking forward to seeing how things would play out. It just seems to me that the basis of this series is flawed. Here we have an aristocrat who is rebellious against an arranged marriage...so what else is new? Then here she is with very traditional parents being allowed to interact with a "magician", this would NEVER happen in an aristocratic family hoping to marry her off. She would be tainted just by association. Then she slowly but reluctantly admits that she is her own worst enemy when she uses magic without conscious thought. The really irritating thing about "Lady Clara" is that she doesn't learn from her mistakes. She continues to want training, but then insists on going off on her own and the first thing she does is walk off the roof or set the lake to boil and bubble. She has no conscience about parading around naked in front of Marcelo. I am reading this third one "The Merqueen , but still I can't find what makes folks, like this. I do like Marcelo, Irele is a bit hard to believe...I cannot believe that two very powerful magicians lived in that castle for hundreds of years and didn't try to combat the dark magic that comprises it. And Lord Washur...who the heck is he and why haven't the magical council done something about him? This makes no sense, It does not stand to reason that the strongest magician around would be a dark wizard. There must be a counter balance and what the heck is his connection to Clara? With all these powers, she is such typical 'female' of the times. I just find the storyline wanting, and I love books like these when the storyline in fleshed out and thought out.
"If you like stories with non-stop adventure [yup], empowered heroines [I adore kick-a** heroines], moody magicians [wizards, magicians, mages etc - I'm there], and mythical creatures with attitude [oh yes!], you'll love The Merqueen, the third installment in The Witching World Series."Well, once I read the kindle blurb [those bracketed comments were my reactions] I just knew I was in for something good [make that "gooooood"]. Boy was I right. This book was a pure fun-blast. Great characters who continue to grow and get more complex in thinking, emotions and reactions to their evolving world, a great plot that continues to get more layered and complex as it takes advantage of the wonderful world Lucia Ashta built for this series, and [can't forget], the wonderful writing I've learned to expect from this author.Clearly another winner, and highly recommended.
Talk about skating on thin ice. This is an ah-shucks tale. LOL. You read it right the first time. If you're looking for an action packed, fast paced, exciting adventure that captures your attention from the start, you've got it. If you want hard hitting, unpredictable, right again. If you're looking for suspense filled, dramatic leads and a page turning tale, yep, right here. You have strong personality based characters that bend, blend and play off one another perfectly. The scenes are vivid and descriptive that you get so caught up in it you're not sure if it's real or imaginative. All the twists and sharp turns pull you along as the characters continue their journey. You have a full scope of emotions to sort through on this thrilling, heart pounding, pulse racing wild ride that seems never ending. Lucia did a wonderful job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Lucia, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.I received an ARC for this story.
