Personal quotes from current and former rodeo participants enliven this look at one of America's oldest sports. Using the results of a questionnaire, you learn how they think of their lives and their jobs. The authors delve into the good and bad of rodeo, from the financial cost to the medical woes, from the exclusion of women to the changes in the sport, from rodeo history to its possible future. If you're interested in rodeo, you should get this book....

I've really been enjoying this book. Good, basic easy to read information, especially for someone like me who knows so little about the sport. I was afraid I'd be overwhelmed with info but not so. Yet,wow, so much more is involved in the different events than I imagined.

From an insider's view, this is an accurate review of rodeo sports today. It is easy and interesting to read.

This book apparently came right off the rodeo arena, maybe even packed around in somebody's blue denim before leaving the warehouse. There was a dead bug carcass on the underside, along with a dark streak (bug guts I'm hoping as the only other dark things in rodeo arenas ....I shudder to think about), a bit of a spider web, and a very rumpled and slightly worn cover. This book wouldn't have lasted 8 seconds except it was requested by a student and there is no time to send this one back and purchase another.

I just recently dicovered this book and boy was I surprised. Personally, I found this book very helpful for the fact that I am a bullrider myself and found the information within it's pages very useful and insightful. It explains the origins of rodeo to the very way to play the game! With in-depth pages on Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Bullriding, Barrel-Racing, and almost every other rodeo event, I don't think you'll find a clearer perspective on rodeo unless you started riding! Please take it from me, for the best book on rodeo, look to "Rodeo In America"

This book really does cover the waterfront, and is a great reference work for anyone interested in rodeo. I think it could use an update, being 20 years since it was written. I'd also like to see a section on "ranch rodeo," which is somewhat different (more team-oriented, and no bull riding) than PRCA rodeo. Being a reference book, this isn't something you'd likely devour all at once. But it's definitely "THE" book to get if you want to know more about rodeo.

I just became interested in rodeos and rodeos riders and thought this book would be a good place to start. As an eager fan looking for whatever information I could get, you would think that at this point any book would meet my quest for information. However, I found this book incredibly boring and tedious to read. The author went into a lot of information that was not relevant to the riders and their performances.I was very disappointed in this book and would not recommend it to anyone, whether you are just trying to learn about rodeos or are a long-time fan.
